We've been keeping this from her for over three weeks and needless to say it was perfect. Another surprise we have for everyone is Leslie and Ryan had their second little boy on May 28. Weighing in at 7 lbs and 15 oz. SLADE MADDEN STORM. We all had a very busy weekend but the best one ever! So glad we all got together - Can't wait till the next time. We love all of you.......

DENTIST """"DISASTER""""

Well FIRST OFF, it was Berkley's 1st Dentist Appointment Today. Needless to say the title says it all. I had the pleasure of going with both girls alone today and NEVER AGAIN will that happen. Precious Miss Berkley was someone else's child this morning. I promise I was looking around thinking, "Who Is This Child, & Please Someone Take Her."

There was a little boy in a chair next to her that was making some crazy noises - moaning really loud, and the funny thing was he was in a deep sleep. The mom keep smiling at us and saying sorry over and over. Berkley could not take her eyes off the boy which looked and sounded as if he was in horrible pain. The dentist kept trying to get her attention with ELMO and some other toys, which definitely did not work. The assistants had to take Marley just so I could hold Berkley's arms down. He finally got into her mouth but she was biting down the whole time and screaming sounds I've never heard from her before. I can say truthfully I've never been embarrassed of my girls but today something changed. I'm still shaking and in a total trance. What Happened To Her. Doctor said this was very normal and when she goes back to get her teeth cleaned they will give her something to go to sleep. THANK YOU! And the doctor politely told me if would be better not to bring the little one next time. YES SIR!!!

Bad News Is: She has a small cavity on one of her back teeth. And they are going to seal 5 teeth which could potentially be a problem. If her teeth are anything like mine she will have lots of problems. THANKS TO MY MOM. But hopefully she get this trait from her "Daddy." So back to dentist on June 9th and this time No Marley and Daddy will be there, for me at least. Hope next time will be different.

I've heard several stories about 1st Dentist Appointments and this definitely will go down in the book.

After all this talking about this crazy child, she is still "MY BERKLEY." And that or this will never change that. When leaving the dentist I asked her what was wrong and why did she behave like that. She told me,"I DON'T KNOW, and I"M SORRY MOMMY." I just completely MELTED.

TILL NEXT TIME................

RESULTS - RESULTS

The News Is In....
100% Craniosynostosis (Closure Of Skull) Good News is it's only the suture in the front, all others on head are perfectly fine. Also no damage to the brain yet, it's not affecting the brain at all (which is excellent news.) Pediatrician told us that the suture should not be closed this early and to fix that more than likely surgery will have to take place. Pediatrician is referring us to a neurosurgeon. Hopefully we get an appointment in the next week and he can tell us where to go from there. Keep us in your prayers!

CT SCAN UPDATE

Marley's CT Scan was scheduled for 7:00 a.m. this morning. Getting there over 30 minutes early helped since they pretty much took us in right away. They were trying to do it a little different with Marley in hoping that they would not have to put her under. In really small infants they usually can get by with wrapping them up like a cocoon where they can't move therefore allowing them to do the 60 second scan without putting them under. In most cases with babies Marley's age they automatically sedate them, which leads to recovery room and so on. We are so blessed they tried Miss Marley by wrapping her up, as you can see in the pictures.
SHE IS TRULY AN ANGEL
At first she made a sad face not knowing what was going on, but was reassured when Mommy and Daddy were right there beside her. Then all the lights and colors swirled around on the machine. She was fascinated!! And only squirmed two times. They said it was a PERFECT SCAN. That was the best feeling ever. We are so proud of her. Results should be in by the weekend. Will post all the details.
Thank you to everyone for your kind thoughts and all those AMAZING PRAYERS!!!

GOD BLESS THIS CHILD...

Cranio Kid

For those that don't already know, we recently found out about another hurdle in our lives at Marley's 6-month doctor's appointment. The moment the pediatrician entered the room, she noticed Marley's forehead, between her still slightly blue eyes, there was a little ridge, convenient description since it's Marley's middle name. We had noticed the spot a few weeks before, but thought absolutely nothing of it as we had come to expect all baby's heads had slight imperfections. However, as the doctor continued to examine her skull, she determined Marley had a "premature closure of the skull" or craniosynostosis.

We still don't know a lot about the condition other than what we've read on about 823 websites, give or take a few. One of the best sites we've visited had the following definition and description, sorry for the length, but if you've read this far, it'll help with understanding the condition:

What is Craniosynostosis? In an infant, the skull is not a solid piece of bone, but several boney plates separated by fibrous sutures. These sutures allow room for growth as an infant develops, and will eventually fuse to form a solid skull. Craniosynostosis is a condition in which one or more of these sutures fuse prematurely, causing restricted skull and brain growth. The result is an abnormally shaped head, or in severe cases, increased pressure on the brain.

The most common treatment is surgery performed by a neurosurgeon and craniofacial surgeon. There are three goals in surgery; open up the fused sutures to allow room for normal skull and brain growth, relieve any pressure that may be on the brain, and give the head a more normal appearance. Some cases may require more than one surgery. The prognosis for a child with craniosynostosis is generally good when treated, but will depend on which sutures and how many are fused. Visit this site for more info: http://www.craniokids.org

Of course, after the string of heartbreaking news and events we've experienced as a family over the past 9 months, this jerked what few tears we still had left for our little Angel Child.

The CT scan is scheduled for Thursday at 7 a.m. at Texas Children's Hospital. We'll have a better understanding of the severity and the next step following the results of the scan. Most likely, we'll have to schedule a time for her surgery. We've been told and read that typically, she would stay in the hospital following the surgery for 6-8 days. It usually takes 3 days for them to be able to open their eyes due to the swelling from the surgery.

I'm not sure how this child can have the difficulties she's had and just keep on rollin with that adorable grin, but she is definitely here for a reason and continues to give our family a joy and determination in our lives. Berkley has already begun her nightly prayers for her little sister and we'll hopefully be back on here Thursday with a positive update. We'll get through this like everything else, with a positive mind, the strength of our family and the blessing of God.

One last thing, Marley had just recently received an invitation from her first Neonatal ICU (The Woman's Hospital of Texas) to attend a "Friends of the NICU" party at the Children's Museum of Houston so of course we joked that she has just decided to try and get an invitation to Texas Children's NICU party next year. Leave it to a lady to figure out a way to have to buy another outfit and "no" the baby outfits are not much cheaper than the adult's version.
